Details about the EN 17352 standard
The NEN-EN 17352 standard outlines the requirements and test methods for automatic pedestrian access control doors, including revolving doors, swing doors and sliding doors. These doors are powered by either electric or hydraulic drives and are designed to ensure that only authorised individuals can pass between areas, strictly one person at a time.
Safety in Use
The standard focuses on the safety of automatic access control doors during operation. It examines potential hazards and risky situations that may arise during everyday use or in the event of a malfunction. It also addresses all stages of the doors' lifecycle, including transportation, installation, dismantling, and disposal.
Exceptions
The NEN-EN 17352 standard does not apply to the following:
- Automatic pedestrian doors (refer to EN 16005 and EN 16361)
- Exterior and interior pedestrian doors (refer to EN 14351-1 and EN 14351-2)
- Doors intended for use by vulnerable individuals
- Mechanical revolving doors with electric or electronic unlocking systems
- Vertically moving access control doors
- Doors used in industrial or factory settings
- Doors specifically designed for individuals with special needs
- Platform screen doors on metro and train stations
The standard does not address noise levels, which are not considered significant hazards. It also does not apply to doors manufactured before the publication date of this standard (1 March 2022). The standard does not take into account:
- Children playing with the doors
- Children under 8 years old using the doors without supervision
